Poster Forge 2.01.36

Poster Forge Editor's Review

How good Poster Forge is depends entirely on what you expect from it. If you think it's going to be a high-quality, professional desktop publishing package, you're going to be sorely disappointed. If you think of it as a fun but highly limited tool, you may be more satisfied.

The main selling point is that it's incredibly simple to use. You just select the image you want to use, type in some relevant text, and choose your colours and your design is ready. You can then print it out or export it as an image file suitable for use online.

That simplicity is also the biggest limitation to the software. While there is a decent selection of designs, such as Western-style wanted poster, or movie billboard, you don't have any real choice about how the finished article looks. For example, you can't change the size of the text, meaning that you are restricted in how much (or how little you can say.)

There are plenty of online tools, both free and paid, that carry out similar functions. It also doesn't take a great deal of technical know-to to produce similar effects even in a simple word processor package. This means the audience for Poster Forge is likely to be quite limited, though it may make for a fun tool for younger children, particularly ones who aren't allowed online access.

Pro's: Very easy to use; decent range of designs

Con's: Little customisation; not suited for professional use

Conclusions: Does what it claims to do, but generally unimpressive
